The Assassin

A woman so cold to the world

The job was done as she slipped by the blue lights, racing. The crowds were screaming as the man fell in the street. Despite her red raincoat, the crime went unnoticed for at least fourteen minutes. His limp body lay in the alley. She was paid to do her job, and life was nothing to her. Terror ran through the streets as the scene was becoming more populated. She confidently walked right by them all. Chaos was her game while everyone suspected a man. The world was a less peaceful place when she let loose her fury.

Her story is unlike others, with tragedies more than others. Oh, the helpless souls that raised her and made her so callous to the world. It was a shame, though, since she had great potential. She was cruel in her youth and throughout her life, but she never let it kill her. Her beauty grown, and she was averse to others if you knew her well enough. Her survival was fully manipulating every situation, including luring men to their graves. The pain became null as she inflicted on others as she was inflicted upon as a child. Only if she had stayed compassionate, but she grew dark and stayed on that path into adulthood. The life she chose was that of an assassin to provide the service of murder.

Julia was her given name, but she goes by the executioner. The dark net has always offered plenty of clients; she asks no questions. Life was about money and living in better circumstances. Her lofty apartment was in one of the most luxurious buildings in the city. Julia turned on the news to see her handy work. The panic in the reporters’ voices as they ask for more information on the shooter. She smiled, sitting back in her chair and checking her account for the funds. The death of another man was nothing to her but her appetite for death. It was always part of her world, and she melted right into her lucrative job. The clock ticked on as the night continued.

More jobs were out there, and her services were in demand. The dark web had hidden her identity, but her successes were well-known there.

A message popped up on her services. The job was much more straightforward than expected but was well paid. She drank her glass of sparkling wine as she read the message. Her last job went well; another would bring in more money, but too many jobs too fast would be folly. The temperature had to cool before she would strike again. Some rest would not hurt anything, either. Success was always celebrated, and sometimes, to return to the scene to confirm the target's death. The streets were filled with death and disease. She just knew that no one was looking for her. No questions were ever asked about who she killed, and it was just a job. Julia returned to the message, and the money seemed too good. Jobs could go wrong, or it could be a setup to catch a killer like her. She then, for good reason, turned down the job.

She would have a job lined up for later, and a weekend away was imminent. A trip to the country to enjoy the fresh air and escape the last crime. A ding from the computer was heard, and the same message rang with a higher price for the same job. She even grew more suspicious of this and turned it down again. A sense of urgency came upon her. Something was not right, but how could they know anything. She grabbed her computer and bag and exited her apartment. She could see the cop lights as she drove off on her motorcycle. Someone had betrayed her, and now she was on the run.

The day had come she had feared, and now she must survive and reinvent herself for the first time.
