Redemption of Drowning

Chapter 2

By: Mariann Carroll and Mother Combs

Danny tried a couple more times during the night to get ahold of his wife, Teresa, before he gave up and went to sleep, upset that no one would believe him that he was not this Paul Williams.

While he slept, he had the strangest dream. In this dream, he was back in the water right before he drowned. Except there was another man in the water with him, a blonde-haired man who was slumped over a board with a gash on his head. Danny tried to climb on the board with the other man, but the board was unsteady and started rocking. Suddenly, the man rolled towards Danny, knocking them both off the board, but right before they were to hit the water, a bright flash of light hit them, and Danny was floating in the water, face down, alone.

Jumping wide awake, Danny was disappointed that he was in a hospital room and that this ordeal wasn’t a bad dream. He was even more disappointed when the nurse came in with his medications and asked him about his birthday, and when he told her, “September 16, 1974,” she just kindly patted his hand and said it would come to him one day.

“Then what is my birthday, woman,” he demanded of the nurse, who just looked at him with pity before handing him some medications and asking him to take them. Unconsciously, Danny took the pills while also wondering what they were for.

As soon as the nurse had left the room, he again tried to call his wife. This time, it rang but went straight to voicemail. Then he saw that someone had left a phone in his room, so he decided to try one time on it.

His wife immediately answered the phone.

"Hello!" Teresa answered her cell phone.

"It's about time you answer your phone, Woman!!!!" Danny shouted on the phone.

Teresa had to pull the phone away from her ears. She did not recognize the voice calling. She thought it might be a prank or the wrong number.

"Sorry, sir you got the wrong number." Teresa hung up the phone.

Danny forgot he was in the wrong body and his voice may sound different to his wife.

The doctor came in to check on him again. The doctor asked him some questions and checked his heart.

" You seem healthy but a little dehydrated. I will keep you on the IVY for now. You might have to stay a few more days. Maybe your memory will return by then, let's hope." The Doctor told him.

" Doctor I did not lose my memory, I lost my body!" Danny screamed in frustration.

The doctor stayed calm, the doctor is used to some patients being frustrated.

"I will be back tomorrow to check on you." the doctor ignored his angry look.

Teresa was at home wondering if she should call the police. Her husband had not answered his phone or called her. It was nice and peaceful without Danny these last couple of days.

Maybe she could call her detective cousin. He might be of some help.

Theresa called all of Danny's friends and family members. No one had heard from him.

Danny is self-employed. He tried working for other companies he got fired in a few days because of his temper.

His business is not even profitable. Danny used it as an excuse that he was working and earning money.

Teresa was five months pregnant it was nice not being physically abused for a few days. She decided to wait for tomorrow to call her detective cousin.

If Danny's in Paul's body, it would make sense for Danny's internal monologue to sound the same to him, but how he doesn't recognize that the voice is different doesn't seem congruent. If he's in a different body, it should feel unusual to him. Like small little things such as different height, potentially different eye sight, potential aches that are new to his body or ones that he had before are now missing. Like, a good example would be from the recent "Jumanji: The Next Level" 2019 in which two old gentlemen are put in younger bodies. They mention how their hips feel "smooth like butter." Think about it, in the 1st chapter they mentioned how his penis seemed to have changed sizes and that he was more well endowed. Even just looking at his own arms and hands should feel different to him. If anything, the experience might be novel, but more than likely, it's traumatic. Glad that T(h)eresa is having a stellar time. I hope she treats herself to a nice meal while Danny's away. She deserves it. Also, I wonder if she has a job, or does contract work. Danny does seem like the type of person who can't hold down a job for the life of him. Yet You'd figured he would've learned to keep his mouth shut and just do his work to keep a paycheck in his bank account. Naturally, I would expect him to resort to contract work as a freelancer. I wonder what skills he has and what he does for a living, that is if he ever has one. Unable to hold a job and abusive to boot. Goodness, what did T(h)eresa ever see in him from the beginning? Was he nice at the start until he could reveal his true colors?

Danny seems like a real peach.

  • But has she deleted (& removed all traces of) his text message? Waiting another day might make it harder to explain not reporting him as missing.

The intrigue continues. Definitely time for the detective!

Great chapter two! Well done Mariann Carroll and Mother Combs.

  • Huh, so that lightning kinda made them swap bodies? But that was just a dream, not necessarily true. Poor Teresa, five months pregnant. I would tell her not to look for Danny, but that child needs a father but Danny is an asshole so maybe the child would be better off without him? Ahhh! I'm in such a dilemma now!
