Alice sat alone in her empty house, her mind wandering back through her memories of over fifty years ago. Back to the days when she was young, beautiful and a popular fashion model. Her face lit up in a beautiful smile.

Oh, those were the days!

There was no loneliness, joint pain, memory losses, heartbreaks, grief, like she experiences these days.

Back then her biggest problem was her struggle with anorexia and her constant need to exercise; in an endeavour to remain the waif thin supermodel in her glory days.

A problem not insurmountable like her problems in old age!

This drabble has been written as part of the daily Drabble Drop challenge and today's random word, that must be included in the drabble, is 'waif'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful idea in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

I've just woken from a nap. All the bits of me hurt and I haven't done my chores. Still wouldn't trade it for anorexia though.

  • Oooo, waif is a new word for me. I loved your drabble!

Waif is the word! Great job on this drabble...I keep reading them...and keep forgetting to try one. Where do you find which word you need to include, or is it one you select and then explain like here?
