Q: How did you get started modeling?
A: We actually had close friends who modeled for Target before us! Finley Smallwood and her sweet mama, Christina, introduced us to our agency after we met and stayed with them in NYC while Finley was shooting for her Target Holiday Ad!
Q: How long have you been modeling?
A: Abby has been modeling for 2 years!
Q: What was your first modeling/acting job?
A: A TV Commerical for a Children's Hospital! We booked this job within days of reaching out to our agency!
Q: Are there any physically difficult parts of modeling that Abby struggles with?
A: Abby says no! I think it helps that I am so very hands on with her throughout each shoot. I help her with each of her outfit changes, even though she absolutely could handle this most times, it's easier on her to have the physical assistance and preserves her energy! When she's on set and they are taking a break I will either walk on and have her sit on my knee or they will provide her a box or stool to rest on. Every set we have been on has been very accessible and accomodating to her!
Q: Tips for getting your child into modeling?
A: Make sure it is something that THEY want to do, not just something that you want them to do. If they are enjoying it then it just comes more naturally!
Q: Is the career demands challenging on your family?
A: Nope! My husband/Abby's dad is now home with us. When we first started he was working 60+ hours a week and that made it very challenging for me to balance it all. Since he has been home it has been very managable! He will stay with the other kids when we have shoots or he will come along! He's even booked a shoot himself since being home! 🥺
Q: What is the best part of modeling as the parent and as the kid?
A: Abby says her favorite part is dressing up like a *****! When we filmed this video the ad wasn't out yet so we couldn't share BUT now we can say it was a SHRIMP! Ab has a blast at the shoots dressing up and having her makeup/hair/nails done! She also loves meeting her friends on set who all love to do what she loves to do! As her parent, my favorite part is watching her at the shoots and seeing how proud of herself she is! I think that I do get more excited when the ads come out because she already knows what it looks like and she has a ton of fun in the moment while shooting! She says she gets shy with everyone looking at her in the stores!
Q: Does it ever get overwhelming for you or her?
A: No, not really! Everything is usually really organized and we often model with the same crew and photographers who we already know so well!
Q: Time schedule on a shoot? Times she doesnt want to go? How to handle that?
A: We usually are on hold for shoots for 2-4 weeks out. We will find out that we booked the shoot 1-2 weeks out. We'll recieve our call time about 1-2 days before! That's one of the reasons why my job of creating content and working through social media and the flexibility that comes with that works so well for us! For times she doesn't want to go- we actually don't encounter this. Abby gets really excited when she finds out that she booked a photoshoot and she really looks forward to it! If she was hesitant about going I would absolutely let her advocate for herself because that is so out of character for her. Ultimatley she is modeling because she wants to! If there comes a day that she no longer enjoys it or has interest in it than she can stop and that is totally okay!
Q: Which brand has been Abby's favorite to work with?
A: Target :) but everyone who we have worked with has been amazing!
Q: How does Abby get paid for modeling?
A: There is a percentage that has to be deposited directly into a child's trust fund when they are a minor working in the industry. For us specifically, as her parents we choose to deposit 100% of her modeling earnings into that account for her.
Q: Do you get paid to travel for photoshoots?
A: Not usually! We pay for all travel costs for NYC and we work as "Local Talent"! We also do this for LA if we do book a shoot there!

the reality of child modeling... 🌇
I got a few comments the other day on a YouTube video that I posted. The video was of our work week in NYC. Staying in a beautiful hotel on Roosevelt Island. Back-to-back photoshoots with amazing, inclusive brands. I was so proud editing the clips together to share with who wanted to see a sneak peak into our life. I loved that video and will cherish the memories that we are documenting forever.

No Plus One
It's nearly one AM and I just got back from my third wedding of the four in this last month alone, and I have always been alone. I hide behind my camera to pretend to be useful, hide behind a safety net of skill set. So I do not have to confront the loneliness that is sleeping alone when everyone else seems to have a partner to crawl into bed with. I love the time spent with those who decided I was worth the 30-plus dollars per plate they decided to spend on me, and I do not need to have a partner on these occasions, but it would be nice to have someone notice, me. See when I am in the corner because they know I need time to recharge and to kiss me on the head until the time has come to leave. Maybe that's the problem about being a professional storyteller, I dream of something that isn't meant for me.

Enough
Me and Beverly were hitting way back. Way back when we were just teenagers. She was the finest thing that I ever saw. She was young and beautiful. She was hot and amazing. I wanted her but she just wanted to be friends. Ever since then I dreamed of her. I dreamed of what it would be like to be with her. She was my fantasy. I wanted to be with her for a long very long time. She was dreamy. She had the most beautiful hair. She had the most perfect curves. She was everything a man wanted and everything a man needed. She was enough. Enough period. And I was waiting for my chance. I was dying to get with her. And we caught up from now and then. She told me about her career successes. And I told her about how I wanted to be a doctor then an astronaut then a businessman. We dreamed together. And we met in the exact same place under the stars in the park at night. I drove my new car and I would have it smell like flowers. And I would give her a rose at the end of the night just to say if I can be your man I would. She would just smile over me and call me her friend. We never kissed and we never made out. We just simply enjoyed being with each other. We were like childhood friends. We were best friends and we were secret with our affections. It shocked me when Beverly came out with the fact that she was going out on a date with Trevor. I was totally angry but I knew that I would have to wait it out wait for my time. She was madly in love with him. She was excited to be with him. Most of our conversation was about him and her. And I gave some advice. Then I asked my grandmother, she was still young at heart and she knew more about dating than me and grandma could keep a secret that Mom and Dad could not. I told grandma that I love Beverly and that I wanted to be with her. And she asked me why didn't you tell her? And I said that I was scared and plus grandma she got somebody. And grandma hugged me and held my face with her hands and she said Son you got to know when to try. You got to know that you are enough. Don't read somebody. Don't fool yourself. You know how far you came. You know that you are a man. And that you are man enough. You can be a strong man. You can be a good man. You can be good to any woman. You are enough. You are exactly what she need. Just believe in your heart. And say it with me and I said Enough. And grandma kiss me on the cheek and wipe her lipstick and said That's my baby, he is a man a good man a strong man a smart man and he is good enough for anyone including Beverly. So I waited and waited weeks and weeks. Beverly was happy about her relationship and she did not have much time for me. And I started dating Sarah and Sarah was not bad to look at but she was no Beverly. And it happened that we ran into each other after many dates to Beverly and Trevor. And the situation was odd, Beverly played it off like me. We doubled dated at the State Fair. And that night was awkward. And then Sarah and Trevor caught us staring at a daze at each other. Trevor got lost somewhere and ignored Beverly. And Sarah got sick on one of the rides and wander off. And it was just Beverly and I, and we walk together that night. And we then held hands over the bridge and I would of asked but I did not want the night to end. Then after sometime I asked Beverly are you choosing me. She said Maybe. And I said don't play with my heart Beverly if you want me then want me if you love me then love me. And Beverly lean in and kiss me on the lip then it became passionate the second time. And Trevor caught us and he was threatening to fight. And Beverly said Where were you? Looking at some cheap tail. Eyes roaming, hands touching. I am through with you Trevor and you can kiss this good bye. Trevor resisted and said So you finally got with that geek. I don't care ain't nothing but a chicken wing. Saving for marriage, I had girls who would put out when I put out. Bye. Beverly was gonna fight him but I held her and gently touch her face said He ain't worth it. Look at me you are enough. You are smart. You are beautiful You are damn sexy. You don't need that loser. Enough. She said yeah I am all he needs enough. Sarah never came back that night, she went home because she was sick and I broke up with her. And now I finally got with Beverly and we were taking it slowly after a lifetime of waiting. And she told me she never loved a man the way she loved me.

. enjoyed your article and video. Abby seems to enjoy modeling. I'm happy for her. I've seen kids who didn't want to do beauty pageants and it shows. Abby acts like she likes doing the job. I hope she does it as long as she wants.
