Giolì & Assia - #DiesisLive @Fagradalsfjall Volcano, Iceland

Performing at the top of active volcanoes, amidst sublime glacier lagoons, and in ancient Italian temples are only some of the reasons that Giolì & Assia’s #DiesisLive series instantly went viral. With each location becoming increasingly daring, Giolì & Assia astonish and impress their listeners every time they release a new set. Giolì & Assia’s combination of stunning visuals, incredible work ethic, impressive feats, and inimitable sound continues to push boundaries in the music industry at every turn.

According to Giolì & Assia’s website, the word “Diesis” (meaning “sharp”) is a reference to a piano’s 36 black keys. Giolì & Assia chose this name for their record label, Diesis Records, in 2018 before launching the label’s #DiesisLive series in 2020 as a reference to the word’s original meaning.

The duo writes that the name for their record label, Diesis Records, was “born from the desire to seek perfection in incompleteness.” Similar to how the black keys on a piano only produce constant harmony, Giolì & Assia play no wrong notes as they blend their artistic influences of House, techno, EDM, indie, and pop music reflecting their aim for Diesis to be “the perfect link between the classical modern sounds and house music vibes.

Many of their #DiesisLive streams boast tens of millions of views and are filmed in sparkling, aspirational locations straight out of a vision board.

Perhaps one of their most intriguing and symbolic videos, however, is their “Fire Hell and Holy Water” performance streamed live straight from the top of Fagradalsfjall Volcano in Iceland.

Giolì & Assia’s set of “Fire Hell and Holy Water” begins by panning from cracked, molten earth to a striking shot of Giolì & Assia in blood-red leather coats against a backdrop of black volcanic ash and scorched earth.

The music then begins as if coming out of the smoke itself. Giolì & Assia tantalize their listeners with the crystal clear, sweet enchantment of Giolì’s handpan and the sizzling power of Assia's voice… a beautiful, symbolic, marriage of fire, hell, and holy water.

Giolì & Assia’s music, lyrics, and chosen landscape all come together at once to create an immersive experience. As with every #DiesisLive, each component of the “Fire Hell and Holy Water” set is precise and masterfully thought-out.

So What is #DiesisLive?

#DiesisLive is a regular series of livestreams produced by the artistic and romantic duo, Giolì & Assia. In #DiesisLive, Giolì & Assia showcase their extensive musical talents live while performing in increasingly compelling and uncomfortable locations.

Their accomplishments have racked in over 80 million views on their YouTube channel alone. #DiesisLive has caught the attention of not only music fans and listeners around the world but of publications like Forbes, as well, for the duo’s ingenuity and keen business savvy.

Their most popular #DiesisLive stream to date is the second #DiesisLive stream Giolì & Assia ever filmed and the first active volcano they ever performed on. Since then, they have gone on to consistently wow their audience, push the limits of the music industry, and inspire artists to attempt similar stunts all around the world.

Why Did Giolì & Assia Start #DiesisLive?

In an interview with Flaunt magazine, Giolì & Assia say about #DiesisLive:

"The inspiration from which the idea of making these videos was born was our desire to show the public and the music industry how our live set was structured, because before then we had not shown all the live elements that compose it: the vocal, the piano, the handpan and the drums.

We also wanted these videos to tell a story, like a musical and visual journey, told by both the music and the beauty of the locations. Each location is unique, and has been chosen for its beauty and connection with the music."

Additionally, in an interview with Forbes, Giolì & Assia go on to reflect, “Making music is so different from just 10 years ago…” and that as a result, they needed to do something that would make them stand out from the crowd. Giolì & Assia decided to cement their spot in music history by pushing the boundaries of the industry itself, elevating expectations to new levels, and proving to the world what the duo is truly capable of.

Giolì & Assia say, “The reason why we did #DiesisLive in general was because we wanted the people to see what we can do and what we want to do live.”

How Did Giolì & Assia Start #DiesisLive?

Although Giolì & Assia has performed in many stunning locations sprawling across the globe, their first #DiesisLive stream went viral with 10 million views in late February of 2020 while filmed in their native Sicily in Milazzo.

When talking about their #DiesisLive performance in another Sicilian location, the Segesta Temple, they say, “We really wanted to make people from all over the world know this place and with it being just 20 minutes from our home, we are also able to promote and show the beauty of our home, Sicily.”

Giolì & Assia began #DiesisLive by celebrating a local gem as their stunning backdrop then used drones and professional cameras to record their livestream. Paired with Giolì & Assia’s stellar performance and deliberate fashion choices, the combination was bound for success.

Between the two halves of the duo, Giolì & Assia have brought together their loves of music, aesthetics, videography, and each other to create a uniquely immersive experience.

Giolì & Assia are dedicated to raising the stakes in the music industry both in front of and behind the scenes. The two say that Diesis Records, “reflects [their] music and the artists [they] have as part of [their] roster: independent music that doesn’t want to get drawn into standard guidelines.”

As of writing this, Diesis Records is accepting demos from emerging artists on their website to continue to uplift fellow creatives and grow their boundary-bending presence in the music industry.

How is #DiesisLive Pushing Boundaries In The Music Industry?

#DiesisLive pushes boundaries in the music industry by taking the challenge of being an independent artist in the online sphere head-on. Giolì & Assia defy the expectations that a musician needs industry backing to be successful by creating a project too powerful, unique, and exceptional to ignore.

By showcasing their talents live, in such different, natural locations, Giolì & Assia raise the stakes for what is expected in live performance within the music, production, and tech industries. Giolì & Assia’s live performances remind us of the level of precision and skill it takes to be a musician and their daring dedication to artistry such as in the #DiesisLive stream of “Fire Hell And Holy Water.”

I forgot to mention this in the piece before this. When I saw #DiesisLive, I first thought "Die is Live" then noticed I missed an S so then I thought it was "Die sis Live" 😅 I'm just so glad you explained about that! Also, is EDM like a genre of music? It seems like I'm a fan of it!
