Twilight Stillness

I like the darkness

It is soothing

Calm

Quiet

A few lampposts illuminate the empty street

Outside my window

There is peace

When all has gone to hide away

For the night

I enjoy staying up to witness

The stillness

Between the hustle and bustle

The busy-ness of the day

Deafening silence replaces

The stumbling and bumbling

Of people’s busy lives

An eerie ringing in my ear

Tells me I should be hearing voices and noises still

For now

All is quiet

Before the storm

Once the sun rises

Birds will chirp

Alarms will ring

Roosters will crow

And all together

The feet will shuffle

Into the jobs that slug our economy forward

Keys will jingle

Engines will start

Phones will ring

And the noise will accelerate

Another day into yesterday

Until everyone has had their fill

Of the day’s duties

The TVs turn off

The eyes get heavy

And the sun goes down

Giving the spotted streetlights

Their moment

To illuminate

The still darkness

Of the empty street corners

Peace finds my soul

When these streets

Are feet-less

Sound-less

My senses are at ease

When I witness this tranquility

There is love

In the calmness you bring

My smiling soul

Will remain smiling

In the deafening silence

Of the night

For eternity

Let me bask

In twilight stillness

My favourite lines: "And the noise will accelerate another day into yesterday..." "When these streets are feet-less...soundless..." This writing shows a high level of insight to your perspective. I enjoyed that you brought this inside your writing. Congratulations on the top story!
