When Harry met the HOGWARTS DINOSAUR Dracorex

He was completely flabbergasted and flummoxed

Never had he seen such a strange dragon.

Thinking he had somehow summoned the wrong creature

Harry immediately yelled, "Petrificus Totalus", a spell to paralyze the beast.

You see, he had read that...

In 2004, a spectacular dinosaur skull had been discovered in the Hell Creek Formation of South Dakota in the US. It bore a close resemblance to a Western fairytale dragon, with its bony head covered in spikes and knobs.

Harry immediately demanded to see it...

So along with Ron, Hermione and other friends, they secretly muttered the "Muffliato" spell.

Not a single Hogwarts-ian could hear them plotting their forbidden magical 'mumbleration'

Ron, becoming way too excited, lifted his wand and shouted "Oculus Reparo": Accidentally using the spell which repairs broken eyeglasses.

Everyone in Hogwarts strangely found their broken eyeglasses magically mended. Ron sighed...at least it benefitted someone.

Hermione groaned and Harry shook his head, frowning at poor Ron.

Then, together they performed the "Accio" spell: A summoning spell that brings objects to you.

The dino-dragon skull came screaming through the air, narrowly missing Hermione's head.

This strange acquisition now hurriedly prompted the "Dinosauro Reparo" spell.

And up popped...DRACOREX!!!

Everyone shrieked in various tones of horrified fright

While Dracorex looked on in horror at the funny looking bipeds.

Draco stared at the human meat, trying to decide how delicious it would be

But really, he preferred herbs and leaves, if he were honest.

Draco charged the group, thinking himself in danger

"Immobulus". Hermione raised her wand with complete confidence

The stupified and befuddled dinosaur froze in time and space...

Harry hurriedly swirled his wand...

"Wingardium Leviosa"... With a simple swish and flick, he levitated himself onto the back of Draco.

He remembered to say “Levi-o-sa” correctly, not “Leviosaaa”! Looking sideways at Hermione.

Draco woke up, shocked that something foreign was sitting on his back

He began to shake, rattle and roll dreadfully

Elvis would have been proud.

He threw Harry off his back

And barreled his huge bulk through the halls of Hogwarts

Professors Dumbledore, Snape and Mcgonagall

Poked their heads out the various doors, quickly assessing.

All three, wands raised, mumbled preternatural mystical spells

Halting the destructive trajectory of

And again freezing the thunderous Dracorex on the spot

Oh dear, Harry and the gang sure were in for it

Though it may not have been able to breathe fire like a mythical dragon,

Harry learned the hard way

That Dracorex was clearly not a dinosaur to be messed with.

Draco, upon having been magically spelled into existence

Now resides in Hogwarts' Forbidden (Dark, Magical) Forest

Learning the ways of magic in the occasional student lessons

"Care of Magical creatures".

Soon he will learn how to summon all of the dinosaur species

Then together they will rule the world again

If humans did not destroy it first!!!

.................................................................

Fossil collectors Brian Buckmeier and brothers Steve and Pat Saulsbury donated their find to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and, in 2006, a team of scientists formally described the new species. Inspired by its dragon-like appearance, they named it Dracorex hogwartsia, which translates as the ‘dragon king of Hogwarts’, in honour of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
