"DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP VS AUTHORITARIAN LEADERSHIP"

"PEACE OUT!"

Ring The Living Bell MELANIE '75

I have written this in response to my observations from many decades of living on Earth. I do not know everything, but what I do know is I must express the living bell of life. Just as I chose the late Melanie’s song, “Ring the Living Bell”. I choose love over hate, light over darkness, and to ring the living bell of freedom. If there are people who disagree with that then I am okay with that, just probably will not have coffee with them. Peace out!

I researched this critically over 4 hours to write this article.

Research on the internet is in legitimate quotes as I wanted to be clear regarding this matter. I write my own stories. I only use AI as a tool as I used to research at The Los Angeles Public Library and East LA Library back in the day.

PEACE OUT!

DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP VS AUTHORITARIAN LEADERSHIP

Quoted:

“The opposite of an authoritarian personality is characterized by being lenient, democratic, flexible, and liberal. Anti-authoritarianism is the opposition to authoritarianism1. It represents a rejection of strict obedience to authority and a preference for individual freedom and autonomy. Here are some antonyms for authoritarian:

• Democratic: Favoring a system of government where power is vested in the people, and decisions are made collectively through voting and representation.

• Lenient: Showing tolerance, flexibility, and understanding rather than strictness or severity.

• Liberal: Advocating for broad-mindedness, open-mindedness, and a willingness to consider diverse perspectives.

• Permissive: Allowing freedom of action or behavior without excessive restrictions.

• Tolerant: Showing patience and acceptance toward differing opinions or lifestyles.

• Flexible: Adaptable and willing to change or adjust according to circumstances.

• Indulgent: Lenient and willing to grant favors or concessions.

• Compassionate: Demonstrating empathy and concern for others.

• Kind: Displaying benevolence and goodwill.

• Merciful: Showing forgiveness and leniency.

• Easygoing: Relaxed and not overly strict.

• Benevolent: Well-meaning and generous.

• Forgiving: Willing to pardon mistakes or offenses.

• Humane: Concerned with the welfare and well-being of others.

• Tender: Gentle and caring.

• Yielding: Willing to compromise or give in.

• Modest: Not excessively assertive or self-promoting.

• Submissive: Willing to submit to authority or direction.

• Clement: Merciful and lenient.

• Amiable: Friendly and approachable.

• Nonjudgmental: Avoiding harsh criticism or judgment.

• Peaceful: Promoting harmony and tranquility.

• Understanding: Sympathetic and empathetic.

• Patient: Able to endure delays or difficulties without complaint.

• Adaptable: Capable of adjusting to different situations.

• Open: Receptive to new ideas and perspectives.

• Unpretentious: Not putting on airs or pretending to be something one is not.

Remember, anti-authoritarianism encourages a balance between individual freedom and collective responsibility, promoting a society where diverse voices are heard and respected."

End of quotes.

I studied Mid-Management in the 1970s which included anti-authoritarian leadership and Union Management and Union Negotiations. I have always been anti-authoritarian and was basically raised with that mind set. The above explanation was from my research that basically took me four hours to find the correct precise definition of anti-authoritarian leadership. I apologize as I did not go to my library in North Hollywood as I used to do before the internet and AI.

We are facing a crisis with our democracy here in America and across the globe.

Autocratic Authoritarian leadership reflects upon one leader making all the decisions, establishing control over workers and any participants within the organization or government.

1. Limited Input: Autocratic leaders allow little or no input from group members.

2. Decision-Making: Leaders make almost all decisions themselves.

3. Work Methods and Processes: Leaders dictate work methods and processes.

4. Trust and Autonomy: Group members may feel they aren’t trusted with decisions or important tasks.

5. Structured Environment: Autocratic leadership tends to create highly structured and rigid environments.

Creativity and Rules: It discourages creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, establishing clear rules forb everyone in the organization.

1. Lack of Creativity: Team members may feel stifled and unable to contribute ideas.

2. Low Morale: The rigid structure can lead to demotivation.

3. Dependency: Team members become overly reliant on the leader.

4. Resistance: Some team members may resist or rebel against strict control.

Democratic leadership promotes team players.

1. Promote Creativity: Democratic leaders trust their teams to generate ideas and find solutions without micromanagement.

2. Inclusivity: They want all team members to be involved in decision-making.

3. Delegation: They willingly delegate tasks and responsibilities.

Authoritarian management, also known as autocratic leadership, involves a top-down approach where the leader makes decisions unilaterally without consulting the team members.

Authoritarian Management:

Definition: Authoritarian management, also known as autocratic leadership, involves a top-down approach where the leader makes decisions unilaterally without consulting the team members.

Characteristics:

Centralized Decision-Making: The manager or leader holds all decision-making power and rarely seeks input from others.

Clear Hierarchy: There’s a strict hierarchy, and subordinates follow instructions without questioning.

Efficiency: Decisions are made quickly, which can be beneficial in certain situations.

Lack of Employee Participation: Team members have limited autonomy and little influence over decisions.

Communication Flow: Communication primarily flows from the top down.

AI

This type of leadership causes reduced employee morale and motivation, limits creativity and innovation, and has a potential for resentment among team members.

Democratic leadership is effective when collaboration, creativity, and inclusivity are essential for achieving organizational goals.

The massive upheaval of authoritarian people spreading across the globe shows a weakness in the people to stand up for themselves and/or they lack self esteem and are completely co-dependent on a leader to dictate what they do in their everyday lives.

The idea in 2024 that we have reverted to the 19th century is totally incoherent to someone as me with a love of independence and team playing. However, there are a group of people who literally want to control our way of life to believe like they do, dress like they do, think like they do, and behave like they do. I back off from my soapbox by commenting that it’s their prerogative to want to be authoritarian but do not force your belief system on everyone.

I believe democracy, freedom, equality, and expressions of ideas is better than a dictator forcing his or her beliefs on everyone else.

I realize some people do not want to talk about politics but as of lately I just don’t want some congressman in my uterus. Back off authoritarian patriarchal society.

As a manager in the late 90s in the entertainment industry I always had complete corporation with my employees due to democratic management. Someone asked me, “How did you get that dumbass kid to work? I yell at him telling him do it or else.” I replied, “You answered your question. I do not yell at him. I negotiate and delegate responsibilities to the nice young man.” The autocratic person looked at me, “You are weird Vicki!" I just walked away and replied, “Oh well, whatever floats your boat babe.”

So, as I write this short article story about anti-authoritarian vs autocratic authoritarian leadership. I remember these rules are the format for relationships between the people we interact with on a day-to-day basis whether it be friends, marriages, religion, work, play, or other particular life situations.

It’s not all about politics but a way of life as human beings.

Autonomy and creativity are precious commodities in America and around the world. We must not forget our freedoms and the people who served in WW2 protecting our democracy. I refuse to bury my head in the sand and hand over my life to a dictatorship of autocratic theocracy authoritative leadership.

How about I invite more people to manage affectively by allowing creativity and freedom for all.

AI

There were politicians banning books as of lately. As I writer and journalist I promote freedom.

What type of leadership do you prefer as a writer, one that dictates what you can write and imprisons journalists or one that promotes creativity and creative endeavors in art, music, film, and expression of emotional concepts?
