Sitting on the couch

My heart feels heavy and full.

You laid your head in my lap.

Resting your eyes for a moment.

I couldn’t resist as I ran my fingers through your hair.

Your beard is scratchy, maybe even a little tough,

But the hair of your crown is soft and silky to against my fingertips.

~

Your piercing green eyes looked up at me.

For a moment, I forgot how to breathe.

I forgot how it felt to feel worthless.

Because you looked at me as if I mattered.

You looked at me with desire and attraction.

Your eyes searched mine,

Did you need the same reassurance?

Did you need to hear the words coming from me, as I need from you?

~

Leaning down,

Your lips are so inviting.

Your chin tilted up.

I felt everything within me quiver in fear and in anticipation.

When the softness of your lips touched mine,

I felt everything within me wake up.

I felt everything began to tingle inside of me.

A few simple kisses could not compare.

And then there was the kiss.

Your mouth parted,

Your tongue tasted of my mouth.

~

Everything within me wants to scream out to the world.

Everyone deserves to know.

I want to tell you in a whisper,

I want to tell you,

I’m in love with you.

I need to tell you.

~

My heart is beating faster than I can think.

My breathe feels short and hard to catch.

Your hand reaches up to touch my face,

The palm of your hand is rough,

But your touch is gentle and caring.

I feel the tears inside my eyes.

I need to hear the words from your lips.

I need to know.

Will you love me as I love you?

~

I feel my eyes close as your thumb rubs across my cheek.

Fingers wrapping around my neck,

You pull me back down,

Down for another kiss,

A kiss that steals my breath and pushes my worries down.

Everything inside of me is alive and feverish.

~

“I love you,”

Your words are almost a whisper against my lips.

The tears slip past my eyes and a sob catches in my throat.

“I love you,” there’s joy and a touch of enigma in my voice.

Giddiness takes over my brain.

He runs his hand through my hair,

Even as it falls in your face.

Everything has happened within a breath.

Every second has taken a moment of my life.

And brought me a slice of happiness.

There’s a mischievous grin on your face

As you look up into my eyes with wonder.

“Marry me.”

Had I missed the words?

And yet, this wasn’t a dream.

My hand quickly covers my lips in shock.

His fingers intertwined with mine,

“Marry me,” he spoke again.

Tears trickled down my cheeks once more.

“Yes.” My voice caught in my throat.

He moved quickly, rising up, and barely missing my head.

He sat up, his grin growing quite wide.

Reaching into his pocket,

You produced an exquisite ring,

Wrapping my heart in your love.
